Why do dogs yawn? Have you ever yawned and then looked at your puppy whose doing the same? A study revealed that yawning is contagious not only between humans but also between a dog and its human parent! In fact, just the sound of the pet parent yawning is enough to trigger a yawning reflex in the dog and this may be a key element in proving a dog’s ability to empathise with us.

Dogs yawn for a variety of reasons. Evidence shows that yawning helps to cool off the brain, providing it with extra oxygen and boosting the heart rate. Yawning also helps a dog calm down or charge themselves up.
